Maria Theodorakis trained in Drama and Dance at the Victorian College, Rusden (B. Ed.) and HB Studio NYC (USA) and has worked as a professional actor in film, television and theatre for over 15 years. She most notably starred in the award winning feature film Walking On Water, for which she received AFI & FCC Best Actress Awards.

Maria’s theatre credits include Top Girls (MTC), Bare Witness (45 Downstairs), The Spook (Malthouse Theatre) for which she received a Green Room Nomination, Construction Of The Human Heart (Belvoir St/Storeroom), The Furies (The Production Company - NYC), numerous plays for the Melbourne Theatre Company including the starring role in David Williamson's Birthrights, many independent theatre projects including The Teratology Project (Institute of Complex Entertainment), Paradise and 40 Lounge Café (La Mama), Charitable Intent (MIFA), a European tour with Jump for a'cappella group Crying in Public Places, and numerous plays for Arena Theatre Company.

Maria was also in the critically acclaimed Who’s Afraid Of The Working Class? for Melbourne Workers Theatre for which she also received a Green Room Nomination.

Her television work includes The Ex PM, Saved, Satisfaction, Rush and main cast roles in Whatever Happened To That Guy, Crashburn and Marshall Law.

Maria is also a writer and director and her short film Car Lady & Bike Girl was awarded best short and FEFF in Toronto.

Maria had a major support role in the feature film The Eye Of The Storm alongside Geoffrey Rush, Judy Davis and Charlotte Rampling, directed by Fred Schepisi.

In 2017 Maria will feature in new ABC drama series Seven Types of Ambiguity (based on the critically acclaimed novel by Elliot Perlman) and appear in Newton’s Law, also for ABC.
