Professor Jioji Ravulo is Professor and Chair of Social Work and Policy Studies in the Sydney School of Education
and Social Work at The University of Sydney. His research, writing and areas of interest include health and wellbeing,
youth, diversity and inclusion, decoloniality and educational leadership. He has been involved and invited to author
over 70 publications, including peer reviewed journal articles, scholarly book chapters, research reports, and opinion
pieces. Jioji is also an Adjunct Professor in the School of Law and Social Sciences, The University of the South
Pacific, supporting social work education, policy development and research across the region.
Jioji is also from a performing arts background, with credits including Fat Pizza, Swift and Shift Couriers and Housos.
He is involved in improv comedy including Celebrity Theatresports at the Enmore Theatre and Slide Night with Rove
McManus at the Opera House and enjoys working the stage with others to entertain. He is a classically trained singer,
generally starting keynote presentations with a song to engage audiences.
Appearing regularly on ABC The Drum, Jioji provides feedback and perspectives to national and international topics
and audiences. He has written for the ABC, Sydney Morning Herald & The Age, SBS, The Conversation and The
Australian. He has hosted and MC’d several community events and academic conferences in support of social
development and knowledge acquisition for participants.
He undertakes clinical work, providing counselling support to players within the National Rugby League (NRL).
Through this role, he works to assist elite athletes better understand and address social and welfare needs to enhance
pro social responses to behaviours on and off the field.
Jioji is the first person of a Pacific Island heritage to become a Professor in Australia. With a genuine commitment to
working in a collaborative, collegial and collective approach, he brings enthusiasm and energy to all his projects.
