Johanna Cosgrove

Johanna Cosgrove is an award-winning New Zealand actor, writer and comedian, and a graduate of Toi Whakaari: NZ Drama School with further training at L’École Philippe Gaulier in Paris.

She has starred in the acclaimed Netflix series Madam (Fifth Season) alongside Rachel Griffiths, Martin Henderson and Danielle Cormack, and appears in the upcoming feature Bust Up. Her screen credits also include Baby Done and Shortland Street.

On stage, Johanna is known for her original works including the sell-out solo show AUNTY, which won multiple awards and toured internationally, as well as Iconoclast and Hi, Delusion!, both of which premiered to critical acclaim. Most recently, her show Sweetie toured the Melbourne, Sydney and New Zealand International Comedy Festivals, winning the 2025 Director’s Choice Award.

Johanna is the co-host of the cult hit podcast Rats in the Gutter, has been a full-time screenwriter for Shortland Street and published her debut book of poetry Crying on the Phone in 2022. She also features on the most recent NZ edition of the hit series Guy Montgomery’s Guy-Mont Spelling Bee which will air on the ABC in 2026.
