Alexei Toliopoulos is a writer, comedian, podcaster, film critic and technically, an internationally acclaimed investigative documentarian.

In 2025, Alexei teamed up with Aunty Donna’s Zachary Ruane for the live comedy festival show “Refused Classification“, a unique blend of satire and documentary theatre, with Alexei donning a blonde bob + earrings to transform into iconic film critic Margaret Pomeranz. Despite the show sounding impossibly niche, it was a remarkable success across Australia with a completely sold-out run (including its encore season), underscoring its resonant impact and the duo’s compelling storytelling.

Currently, Alexei utilises his unmatched encyclopaedic film knowledge and infectious passion to celebrate cinema on The Last Video Store. In collaboration with The Betoota Advocate, Alexei chats to guests about their favourite films in the style of an old-school video store rental combo. Featuring conversations with the Philippou brothers, George Miller, Chris Hemsworth, Anya Taylor-Joy, Julio Torres, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Hugo Weaving, David Wenham, Leigh Whannell, David Farrier, Paul Kelly, Angela White, Miranda Tapsell and many more, the show has quickly become a go-to podcast for film lovers.

Alongside creative partner Cameron James, Alexei created and stars in the investigative-comedy YouTube docuseries Finding Yeezus. The cult series is a follow-up to their deeply beloved and obsessively listened to ABC podcasts Finding Drago and Finding Desperado. The ‘Finding’ series is cherished for its artisanal blend of goofy comedy, heartfelt emotional resonance and bedevilling procedural style. It captures that ‘tumbling down the rabbit hole’ feeling of being the only one tugging at an unravelling thread of obscure pop culture conspiracy… and it is all true.
