Jude Perl

Jude Perl is a multi-award-winning singer, songwriter and comedian based in Melbourne. Texas-born, but Melbourne bred; Jude has created a name for herself by writing and performing hilarious, yet brutally honest, stream-of-consciousness style lyrics, set to undeniably catchy and well-crafted songs. “These songs are not only funny but also infinitely better composed than many of the songs on commercial radio” (AU Review).

Jude has written and performed 6 solo comedy shows, winning 3 Green Room Awards for Best Original Songs. Her 5th show I Have A Face won her a 4th Green Room Award for Cabaret Artiste and Best Cabaret at Melbourne Fringe 2018. In 2021 Jude performed their 6th solo show Participation Award at the Melbourne Comedy Festival and made their debut performance at the televised Melbourne Comedy Festival Gala. In 2022, to celebrate the release of her latest album of the same name, Jude performed “Participation Award” with a 5 piece band at Max Watts and recorded the show for ABC presents podcasts. In the same year, Jude also won Best Music at Melbourne Fringe for her experimental, unscripted hybrid show Jude Perl: Live Stream In Person (Live!).

In 2023, Jude made her main-stage debut in Melbourne Theatre Company’s A Very Jewish Christmas Carol both as a cast member and musical director. In the same year, she released her independently produced web series SugarHope Records a 4 part-music comedy series about a jingle writer working for a sugar company. Jude also appeared in Aunty Donna’s ABC series Coffee Cafe both as an actor and as a songwriter. She has also performed multiple times on the Just For Laughs stages in Australia.

As a music artist, her 2013 debut single Girls & Boys received regular airplay on commercial radio all over Australia (including Fox FM and 2Day FM). Her debut album Modern Times was produced in LA by Grammy Award-winning Engineer Brian Paturalski (Outkast “Speakerboxxx/The Love Below”). Whilst in LA Jude also worked with Colin Hay (Men At Work) recording her album track Canyon with him at his studio and singing backing vocals on his album Next Year People. In 2016 several of Jude’s songs were featured in the internationally acclaimed documentary Embrace by activist and Body Image Movement founder Taryn Brumfitt.
