Miley Tunnecliffe is a Western Australian writer, director and New York Stella Adler trained performer. In 2019, Miley won Outstanding Emerging Female Director at Flickerfest for her digital dramedy series Calling which she wrote and directed. In addition to her behind the camera roles, Miley starred in the project alongside Debra Lawrance (Please Like Me).
Calling has played at numerous local and international festivals including Adelaide Film Festival, Cinefest Oz and Revelation International Film Festival. It won Best International Film Award and was nominated for Best Comedy Award at Austin Short Comedy Festival. Miley has written episodes on Australian series The Heights (ABC), which debuted to critical acclaim in February 2019 and the upcoming ABC animated comedy 100% Wolf.
The rising writer/director’s next production with SBS Australia is Molly and Cara, an odd couple comedy which she also created. Miley has received Screenwest Elevate 70K short film funding for her female-lead epic suspense drama In Australia.
In 2018, Miley was selected to participate in Screen Australia’s Talent USA Program that introduces the best emerging Australian talent to the international market. On the heels of this US trip, Dynamic TV came on board as producers of one Miley’s television projects. That same year, the Australian Directors Guild selected Miley to attend the Producers Guild Conference as a director’s “One to Watch.”
In 2017, Miley won the PAGE Awards’ Top Prize for BEST TV COMEDY and was the recipient of the prestigious Screenwest Bill Warnock Emerging Writer’s Initiative. Her writing has consistently placed in other international screenwriting awards, including The Oscars Academy Nicholls Fellowships and AWG’s Prime Time.
She has produced three short films including the comedies, Love in a Disabled Toilet and Bye Bye Lulu which she also scripted and starred in. Miley wrote and directed the romantic drama Lola & Luis, (Nominated-Best Film, Winner-Best Actor at the 2016 Western Australian Screen Awards).
